Beginner/Junior Development

Membership Matters

All U8 to U18 players must complete a membership form to be submitted to admin@jiwahockey.com. Depending on age and who they play for, there are different levels of subs for the players in U8 to U18. Please go to the membership section to sign up and “join”. If you have any questions then please contact the coach or AGA (Age Group Administrator) of your age group or email our membership secretary: admin@jiwahockey.com

Everyone welcome, just turn up on Sunday mornings (September to March) and meet at the Welcome Point by the white board on the clubhouse wall opposite the water pitch. Advance notice of attendance is preferable by emailing admin@jiwahockey.com.
New members are “buddied” with an existing member
New players may attend two “taster” coaching sessions before joining
Subscriptions are due by the end of September 2023 or, if paying by installments, the first installment must be paid before the end of September 2023.

Junior Goalkeepers

We offer regular goalkeeper coaching on Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings (Junior GK academy), please see Junior Goalkeeping pages for sessions planned. Your age group administrator will add session dates to your team page on this website

Junior Kit

Our youth playing kit, along with sticks and other hockey accessories, is available online from our kit partner Hawkinsport. All kit can be viewed and purchased online, and at specific times, will also be at the club on a number of weekends throughout the season. More information can be found on the Club Shop section of this website

Equipment
Please see Members Guidance on use of kit and follow Government advice on Hygiene
Hockey sticks
One of the biggest problems we have is young players with a stick which is too big for them. It is one of those things that you just can’t buy a size too big and wait to grow into. Please buy your stick at a reputable sports shop which will make sure you have the right size. Don’t let mum and dad buy one without taking you to be measured up. We can advise you how to measure up.
Shin pads
These are essential. You will not be allowed to train or play without them.

Mouthguard
A properly fitted mouthguard (gum shield) is highly recommended. Please ask your child’s coach or Age Group Administrator for more information on where they can get gum shields fitted.
